How do I update my address with the IRS?
You can update your address by using the new address on your next tax return or by sending Form 8822, Change of Address. Businesses use Form 8822-B. The IRS page lists other ways too. Telling the post office alone may not update IRS records, so letters and refunds could still go to the old address.
Individuals
Form 8822 covers your home mailing address. If you filed jointly and now live apart, each person can update separately. The IRS page explains how long processing usually takes.
Businesses
Form 8822-B updates a business mailing address, location or responsible party.
